5 ways to grow back your edges during quarantine
1. Lay off the edge control
Consistently styling your curls can have a negative effect on your edges. When you slick your hair back with a gel, it adds tension to the front of your hair which then weakens it. Overuse of gels can also be drying and heavy on your edges. It is proved that less manipulation of the hair allows your follicles to be restored. Avoid slicking your hair back or laying your edges down now that you are not going out as much during the pandemic. Let your edges breathe and thank us later.
2. Choosing the right hairstyle
Using an appropriate hairstyle will ensure that your edges stay protected whilst encouraging them to grow. Remember that not all protective styles protect your hair from getting damaged. For instance, whilst wearing your curls in a bun is known to be a great protective style, it also has its drawbacks. Wearing your bun tightly pulled can be damaging to your hairline causing your edges to break. A preferred hairstyle to help your edges grow would be two strand twists. They are long lasting and are a great option as they are easy to do.
3. Apply an oil
Using an oil or a combination of oils on your edges is strongly recommended as it helps provide your hair with the right nutrients needed to restore its follicles. The best oils to use are ones that are natural as they are packed with many vitamins and nutrients that are great for your curls. Some of the best oils which are easy to find include olive oil, coconut oil, argan oil and almond oil.
4. Scalp massages
Scalp massages helps to increase blood flow which is important for your curls as it provides nourishment to the roots. We recommend massaging your scalp at least 3 times a week. Ensure that you pay particular attention to the front of your hairline whilst gently applying pressure in circular motions. For the best results apply an oil and massage for 5 minutes.
5. Enjoy the process
Give your edges a little bit of love and before you know it they will be thick, full and fabulous.
